As boxed mattresses have increased in popularity over the last decade, the number of competitors who sell a mattress in a
box through ecommerce platforms has also increased. BedInABox® is the original mattress in a box that gave rise to the
ecommerce mattress industry by allowing customers the ability to buy mattresses from the comfort of their home. Over time,
the process for compressing, rolling, and packaging a mattress into a box, as well as selling and purchasing mattresses
online, has become much more practical. While BedInABox® mattresses have always been constructed with high quality memory
foam that is manufactured right here in the USA, some of our competitors use other technologies and materials. Purple is well known for the Purple Grid technology used in its Purple Mattress.
Below, we will explore the key similarities and differences between BedInABox® and Purple.
Mattress Selection
Purple, just like BedInABox®, offers Twin, Twin XL, Full, Queen, King, and California King size mattresses. This diversity of options is great when shopping for the whole
family. However, Purple offers only three different mattress models, while BedInABox®
offers seven. Our goal is to make sure every type of sleeper can find their ideal
bed, which is why we have developed mattresses with varying heights and levels of
firmness.
BedInABox® Memory Foam versus Purple Grid Technology
Both BedInABox® and Purple
mattresses are made in the USA and both companies use CertiPUR-US certified foam to construct their mattresses. This
certification means that the foam used to produce both companies’ mattresses is free of certain toxic chemicals. What
distinguishes a BedInABox® mattresses from a Purple mattress is the use of memory foam. Purple
uses no memory foam whatsoever in their mattresses. Instead, they use the Purple Grid, which is made from a
hyper elastic polymer. Purple claims that the Purple Grid sleeps cooler and lasts longer than
memory foam. This claim may be true if you are buying cheap, imported memory foam, but that’s not what you get with
BedInABox®. We have mastered memory foam cooling technology with our CoolRest memory foam- which we make ourselves right
here in the USA. We are also confident that our memory foam mattresses are durable, which is why we stand behind a 20-year warranty. In contrast with us, Purple only offers a 10-year warranty, which speaks for itself.
Durability
At BedInABox®, we promise that your mattress will be comfortable and long lasting, which is why we stand behind a 20-year
warranty. Our reviews speak for themselves- please see for yourself- our sleepers
can go to bed confident that their mattress will maintain its quality. On the other hand, when looking at reviews for Purple, some Purple customers have found that their mattress begins to show indentations after only a
few months.
Suitability
BedInABox® has been lauded by both back and side sleepers for its comfortable memory foam mattresses. You can rest assured
that BedInABox® has designed products that will be comfortable regardless of your preferred sleeping position. Although Purple has also received similar praise, it also has a sizable number of customers who immediately
regret purchasing the Purple Mattress on the first night. Many of these complaints are from both back and
side sleepers. There is also evidence that heavier sleepers find the Purple Grid to be uncomfortable.
Price
Shipping and delivery are free when purchasing mattresses from both BedInABox® and
Purple. A queen Purple mattress retails for $1,399 while our Original Queen is only
$999. Not only are our memory foam mattresses less expensive, but we also offer
regular discounts on sleep products sitewide. Just like Purple, we also offer
financing so that you can pay for your mattress in monthly installments through
Affirm. We are committed to making your purchase easy and affordable!
Trial Period
BedInABox® has a 120-night free trial period for our mattresses, while Purple only lets you try out the Purple Mattress and Purple Grid for 100 nights. As we have already mentioned, we offer a 20-year
warranty while our competitor offers only 10 years. BedInABox® is committed to delivering a high-quality mattress that gives
you the best night’s sleep possible. You can rest comfortably knowing you purchased a BedInABox® memory foam mattress.
Mattress Foundation Comparison
In addition to USA made mattresses, the BedInABox® Clever Connect® Foundations
are also made in the USA. Their solid support and durability pair flawlessly with
BedInABox® mattresses. While Purple offers well-designed mattress foundations and
bed frames, they are sourced from global manufacturers and start at a higher price
point than our BedInABox® options.
Adjustable Base Options
At BedInABox®, we offer two adjustable base options: the MotionInABox® 1.0 and 2.0, and
Purple similarly offers two options, the Ascent Adjustable Base and the SleepGenius™ Smart
Base. However, the pricing and availability of sizes makes a real difference and sets our
adjustable bed frames apart. Purple’s Ascent Adjustable Base is currently only available in King
size and starts at $1,999, and the SleepGenius™ Smart Base is currently available in Queen size
also starting at $1,999. We offer adjustable bases in sizes ranging from Twin XL to Split King,
and the MotionInABox® 1.0 starts at $849 while the MotionInABox® 2.0 starts at $1,249.
In addition, our MotionInABox® bed frames come with a wider variety of features than Purple’s
Ascent Adjustable Base while remaining more affordable. While Purple and BedInABox®’s
adjustable bases share features such as a zero-gravity setting and anti-snore positions, the
MotionInABox® 2.0 comes with additional features such as a voice-controlled wand, 2-zone
massage setting, four programmable sleep positions, and remote flashlight. On the other hand,
Purple’s SleepGenuis™ Smart Base is set up a bit differently, such as by using pink noise and an
app to control all features. Like the MotionInABox® 2.0, the Smart Base comes with a few extra
features to set it apart from more basic adjustable bed frames like the Ascent and
MotionInABox® 1.0. However, the Smart Base comes with only a 3-year warranty, while the
Ascent and both BedInABox® adjustable bases come with a 10-year warranty. To learn more
about your options when it comes to adjustable bases and how they work, we’ve created an
Adjustable Base Buying Guide found at the bottom of our website.
